New heart to a 16-year-old girl.
In the Indore city, a 16-year-old vikhroli girl became the youngest to get a heart that raced 546 KM from Indore to a Mumbai hospital in under two hours of Sunday.
At fortis hospital, Mulund, the sixth heart transplant in the city took place to Sweden D’Souza suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy , had registered about one and half months ago. She got the heart of a 20-year-old girl from Indore who had epilepsy.
Due to a fall, caused by a seizure the donor had suffered a brain injury. Doctors, at Indore’s MGM medical college and hospital, where a brain death was identified for the first time, frantically started looking for recipients, as her parents agreed to donate her all organs.
Dr. S Narayani , zonal director fortis said, ” This transplant shows increased sensitivity towards rapid response required in transportation of organs.”
