In a poverty ridden country, where people still live on less than Rs.47 per day (official definition of poverty line), we still find funds for self-aggrandisement, and that too at a massive scale.
Witnessed in UP, Tamil Nadu and other states, it is now the turn of Punjab. CM Prakash Singh Badal is spending more than Rs.5.50 billion of public funds on building 3 massive monuments in the state, obviously to be completed within his tenure.
It may be noted, that while Governments quibble over funding for education, healthcare, sanitation, vocational training, and such like, when it comes to building monuments to their egos, funding becomes a non issue.
Being constructed under the guise of providing ‘enlightenment’, and other such lofty sentiments, the three – Jang-e-Azaadi, Ram Tirath Temple, and Punjab War Heroes Museum, are meant to be a immortal testiment to Prakash Singh Badal, at public expense, of course!
