43 year old Mario Sorrenti is an acclaimed fashion photographer. His prestigious work include supermodel Kate Moss for Calvin Klein’s iconic Obsession campaign and Pirelli calendar. Italian born and New York based Mario is known best for his capture of nude models with his camera. As a young boy he was fascinated by glamour and nudity. He even did modelling assignments before taking photography as a career. He is married and settled in New York with two children and wife Mary Frey.

Excerpts from an interview:
Q. You are famous for nudes. How come?
A. It was natural. My father and mother were hippies and most of the time we including my family used to spent time at the beach naked, surrounded by beautiful girls and boys. I myself posed in nude for various shoot during my modeling days.
Q. How you have started?
A. While I was 18, I used to carry camera every where and started taking pictures of the men and women around me. In fact I was obsessed with photography.

Q. Tell about your Pirelly Calendar shoot?
A. Not come easily. They contacted me number of times but I missed somehow and I was disappointed. By God’s grace after one more meeting it all went well and they decided to give me a chance and I was excited.
Q. You said that calendars should not be too sexy. Please elaborate?
A. I do not want too much skin show. I want the focus should be in the anatomy and the beauty of the figure and shape of the woman. The beauty in their figure and how the models sat and poised are concerned to me.
Q. How different are your work with other photographers?
A. My work is very sexy and sensual. When I shoot I am more focused on trying to discover something about the person.

Q. Who influenced you most as a photographer?
A. One and only Kate Moss. She made great impact on me as a photographer. May be because we knew each other since childhood and campaign for Calvin Klein further cemented our relationship.
Q Are you working on any new project?
A. Yes, I am working on a book on photography.
