Shillong Smart City Mission
As autumn is slowly creeping in, the Monsoon Rains are forcing people to adjust to its extremities. Shillong is hoping to recreate itself after being figured in a list of 98 cities to be developed as a smart city.
LeCorbusier’s had a similar vision of creating a sustainable environment with assured and efficient infrastructure. In which these habitats, smart solutions would have created a better e-governance and citizen participation.
Shillong is however landlocked both vertically and horizontally. It is already bursting from it seams. It starts to choke when it is faced with the extremities of the weather. It sense of civic sense and infrastructure management predates back to the British era which has never been overhauled as it grew.
However, rules were created as the city grew. As every rule requires both implementation and enforcement to create a sense of sustainable livable infrastructure. Its level of maturity dates back to a couple of years where it’s beliefs of tradition where taken as opportunities.
In Shillong at the moment there is an understanding it has to implement certain sustainable initiatives to control migration to the city. Then it can adapt only to Smart City.
