CHAK DE!
In 1980, when the Indian hockey women’s team ended their run in the Moscow Olympic Games with a decent fourth position, no one would have even wondered that it would take them more than three decades to enter the huge games again.
Owing to India’s fifth position in the World Hockey League in Antwerp, Belgium and both England and Netherlands winning over Spain and Germany respectively in the two semi finals in the ongoing European championship opened up an Olympic berth for Indians.
Along with India, nine other teams that have qualified for the Rio Olympics are Korea, Argentina, China, USA, Great Britain, Germany, Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand.
It’s a long gap of 36 years. We wish our team the very best to make it the most memorable one.
