Indian Government (Dis) Incentivises people to join the Armed forces
The vetrans of Indian armed forces have been demanding, and justly so, a formula of One Rank, One Pension – OROP.
Denied by different Governments over the decades, they are facing the same hurdles by the majority BJP Government too.
In the case of armed forces of former British Colonies, who gained independence in the 1900s, Indian armed forces have been recognized by their exemplory conduct and behaviour.
Unlike most of their other counterparts from similar background, they have been upholders of Democracy. Even in the wars and battles which India has had to face over the decades of it’s existence as a Independent Nation, they have come out smelling of roses.
Despite all this, for the people who put their very lives in danger, so that we may enjoy the fruits of Democracy, and yes, this also includes our Government and political servants, they get the short end of the stick.
If the Government is not able to decide to give them a fair shake, maybe they should take out a referendum, and let the rulers of the country – it’s citizens decide.
