Hooter call for Delhi Cabs
There have been reported incidents of harassment against women in the capital city against many radio operated taxi operators. Especially with a recent incident with Uber, it has highlighted safety among women who would use these services while travelling around the capital.
Uber, Ola and various other mobile app based taxi services will come under a new legal framework in the national capital which will mandate for them to install panic buttons and hooters inside the vehicles. The new taxi scheme launched by the Delhi Government will enhance the existing taxi services already available in the City.
Even though there are taxi’s currently operating on the road with such similar SOS buttons. The inclusion of it being useful for the passenger still remains unclear. The concerns are of it functionality in monitoring to check if they are working as intended even though the government assures its directives.
A passenger during an adverse situation can press the panic button, which gives out an alarm, alerting everyone nearby and the location of the taxi can be traced through GPS.
