In loveless Mumbai, Crime to make love
In loveless Mumbai, Crime to make love
The Malvani police in Mumbai, India under the supervision of DCP Vikram Deshpande rounded up 40 couples in hops to bust a prostitution racket in a hotel.
Remniscent of the experiences of Neeraj Ghaywan’s movie Masaan, the raid left the victims traumatised.
According to the victims, they were consenting adults, who had checked into the hotel fulfilling all legal formalities. However, the behaviour of the Police, which treated them as deviants, and the girls as prostitutes, left the hapless lovers completely humiliated.
Though the intentions of the Police may have been well placed, their haste in ‘solving the case’, prevented them from doing their research before conducting the raid.
By their overzelousness, have the Police inadvertantly trampled upon the Citizen’s Liberties as guaranteed under Article 21 of The Indian Constitution?
