India monsoon this year has been similar to last year with 88% rainfall. However a drought was not declared last year as it pick up its strength at the end of the season.
The rains in the latter period are expected to be lower due to the unusual strength El Nino is developing, raising fears of drought. Even though a majority of farmers are witnessing a good rainfall. There are concerns of reported dry spell in some regions. The consumer inflation in June witness an eight month high due to rising food prices. The farmers depend on a good September rainfall for the cultivation of their winter crops.
