Why we don’t accept explicit scenes?

Why we don’t accept explicit scenes?

“Whenever I am sitting with my family and watching a movie, a little nude (or semi-nude) scene makes everyone uncomfortable and they try not to acknowledge the scene at all.” This is something every single one of us has gone through and we now know better than to watch a movie with our family.

Why is it that whenever a little explicit scene comes up; be it nudity, kissing, profanity, that we feel so awkward? This can be attributed to the fact we Indians have been accustomed to seeing our women completely covered and inside the four walls of the house. This fact can again be considered a little flawed if we look into the intricacies of it. If we go back to our history, we realize that this has not always been true. Look at the sculptures at Khajuraho temples, don’t they show nudity? Don’t they show eroticism? What about Kama Sutra? The book of erotic love emerged from the “holy land of India”. When our ancestors have been so advanced and treated nudity as a normal thing, then why do we make a fuss out of everything?

We are in the 21st Century. But, what has this new century bought us except more complexity? Yes, we have reached Mars and will soon reach another galaxy, but, our mindset has forever stayed in the same position. The reason as to why, most of the Indians react so strongly to anything sexually relevant in today’s world can be answered by saying we Indians have not learned to be liberal. We need to talk about these things more and not treat them as ‘taboo’. Some level of explicit stuff is expected and accepted inside the four walls, so why not in public?

Why we don’t accept explicit scenes?

The west wind has bought some changes when we talk about such topics. The youngsters today not only like Hollywood movie and are a huge fan of TV serials, they have begun to accept these issues and also have strong opinions for them. Only can this generation bring a much needed change in people’s perceptions.

One very important thing we fail to acknowledge is that, why is being covered an issue only for women. Why “too much skin show” of a woman makes the movie an Adult Certified movie? Why men are conveniently left out of this topic? Watch this beautiful Havells Ad that makes us question the norms of our society.
