Meghalaya conducted a two day state workshop on child rights, child protection based on the JJ and Posco Act. It highlights the challenges of understanding the mechanism and psychology of the child’s inherent rights are protected and not violated for the sixteen to eighteen years who are brought to crime.

These incidents are not restricted to just Meghalaya, but are also National wide. There is one case of infanticide reported. Majority of the cases are from single parents of poor backgrounds where issues of negligence is systematic. It is witnessing rape, assaults and molestation cases registered every year and is prevalent in the North East and child labor is rampant in Jaintia Hills. According to the UNCRC report states it recognizes India has difficulties in abolishing child labor, however it can regulate through strict measures.

The changing times brings with it concerns of the vulnerability of the familial structure. “The charity comes from Home” highlights the Minister of Social Welfare Mrs. Deborah Marak.” it is the society that plays an important part not just the social welfare department and the police who needs to address these problem.

The initiatives of prevention of the various stakeholder’s addresses the calculative effort of a welfare approach to develop a child in building a relationship at a community level. This is done based on the Constitutional provisions needed to include them as partners in welfare, rather than as persons simply requiring institutional care.
