LO AND BEHOLD…IT’S MISS TANAKPUR!

Director Vinod Kapri’s ‘Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho’ is a satirical take not just on the political structure, but also delves into a patriarchal and panchayati system that is deeply rooted in the rural veins of our country. Produced by Crossword Films, this film has Annu Kapoor leading from the front alongside actors Om Puri, Sanjay Mishra, Rahul Bagga and Hrishita Bhatt in supporting roles.

The story is set in a village named Tanakpur, the head of which is Sualaal Gandass (Annu Kapoor) whose peevish relations with his wife, Maya (Hrishita Bhatt), land the couple in resentment towards each other. Meanwhile, Arjun Prasad (Rahul Bagga), a young boy aspiring to join the Police force is alleged to have raped Miss Tanakpur, the most attractive buffalo in the village. All the three characters are connected to the case.

That is the point till where the film tries to grasp attention after which the plot gets lost, haywire and chaotic scenes disrupt one’s interest in this already unpromising film. The film is said to be based on true events in Rajasthan but debutant director Vinod Kapri slightly went loose with the story. The ‘jack of all trades and master of none’ phrase goes well with him since he is responsible for not only a naive direction, but a sloppy story, writing and screenplay as well.

In a failed attempt to make it come across as a film with a strong social message, ‘Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho’ could have been a much better watch had there been crisp and terse shots and dialogues, more of good acting and less of overly done facial expressions and a bold sense of story writing.

We will still recommend you to watch the film if you can laugh out at sleazy or immoral jokes at regular intervals. It won’t be fair to be harsh on a debut effort though, so we give this film a 1.5 on 5 stars.
