Ability in Disabled
On 2ndMay 2015, the evening of the anniversary of the coming into force of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, UNIC, in collaboration with NGOs The Cradle and Indian Council for UN Relations, hosted performance of Miracle on Wheels. A choreography that celebrates full integration of persons with disability in social processes, one of the key aims of the UN’s global strategy on Disability.
Disability is just a state of mind, this was proven by Miracle On Wheel whose performance left everyone of us quite inspired and proud. The performance was divided into six parts, wherein the dancers who were on wheelchairs or the beautiful girls who were performing even when they weren’t able to hear anything, performed on different songs and dance forms like Bharatnatyam, Sufi, Bollywood etc.
The entire choreography was done by Guru Syed Sallauddin Pasha who has dedicated his life towards proving people wrong that disabled people cannot do anything. The amount of trust and love he has put on these people and the amount of respect the dancers have for him is impeccable. During a conversation with us, Mr. Pasha said that the entire choreography is experimented by him personally and then it is performed by these people and his aim through such performances is to take out the negative thought in people’s mind about disabled, to which he has been quite successful by so far but there is still a long journey to make.
The troop has been seen in various television shows like India Got Talent, Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega, Satyamev Jayate and so on, and has also won a title of maximum spin on wheel chair in Guinness World Book of Record. They have proven that if given a chance they can make the most of it, but not at the cost of charity. It was indeed a performance to witness and an evening to remember.
