A Play about Urbane Life and Death :36, Defence Colony
Yesterday, Akshara theater, which is situated in Baba Khadag Sing Marg, New Delhi, saw a jam packed audience who experienced the suspence and the nuances of the thriller, “36 Defence Colony” a Hinglish Play presented by CurtainCall Productions with Vishesh Arora.
The play is about a murder that takes place in 36, Defence colony, a suburban and posh colony in the busiest high profile place in Delhi.
The curtain opened with Prakash Ahlawat, assistant commissioner of delhi police, interrogating a man.
With his quick wit and presence of mind, he is able to take out the information, where all the others failed. Sub Inspector B.P. Jakhad is his assistant and also provides the comic relief. They investigate the murder of Savitri Deewan, a social highlight of the higher class society and Prakash Ahlawat gets the assignment to investigate on the case.
The web is then spun, with twists and turns, with abuse of power and of rights, with anger and fear of other characters like Samrat deewan who is an egoistic and short-tempered man, but onne can still see fear in his eyes, to MP Singhania, who was plain, yet one could see small flickers of impatience and eccentricity. In short, people are grey, not black or white. The only difference can be in their shades of grey.
The plot writeen and directed by Manil Mayank Mishra, thickens and new things are revealed in every scene of the act. The actors were brilliant and seeped in the characters with ease. It was brilliantly played by Radha Bhatt, Inderpreet Kaur, Akhil Vaid, Milind Tyagi, Nitin Mandal, Megha Ahuja, Joshua Chin and Manil Mayank Mishra.
The play also tries to show the urban, or to be specific, the metro life, where everyone has lives a complex life. It tried to portray the high class society where powerful people are people and have their pet-peeves and dusty cabinates, hidden in the corners as well.
Overall it was a wel written and well scripted play, which kept the audience glued to their seats, yet on their toes, by their performance and the plot.
