House of Symphony’s Tribute to 100 years of Indian Cinema

From its inception in 2011, The House of Symphony, in a mere three years, has managed to win over the hearts of millions of people in the entire nation. House of Symphony is a music company with over a 100 musicians on board. It is a company which aims to bridge the gap between the established and budding musicians, a platform where artists who have been a part of famous shows like MTV Coke Studio, MTV Unplugged and various other shows perform with artists who have just been out of their colleges.

“We have many freshers in the group since we see the performer in them. Obviously they are trained before they get on to the stage. We, The House of Symphony, are a multi-genre group and one of the prominent choirs of Delhi. Our most acclaimed performance was when we gave a tribute to A.R. Rahman and now we have given our tribute to 100 years of Indian Cinema” said Nilotpal Sinha, Director, House of Symphony.

Further talking about the tribute to 100 years of Indian Cinema, he said “Why a Tribute to Indian Cinema? Well, Bollywood was always in our mind and since the industry has completed 100 years we wanted to give it a tribute, probably the last one in the entire nation. We started with 1913 and ended with the hits of 2014.”

The performance which lasted approx. two hours was scheduled in a way that the first half was dedicated to old songs and the second half to new ones. It began with the evergreen Geeta Dutt’s song- ‘Babuji Dheere Chalna’, the performance moved on to giving a tribute to various other artists like- Guru Dutt, R.D.Burman, Mohd. Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Bappi Lahiri, Laxmikanth Pyarelal, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle and so on which reveled up the audience irrespective of their age group. It indeed made it quite evident that these old songs, no matter how old they are, still connect every one of us and it is amazing to notice that we might not even know the year the song came out or the artists acting in it, but somehow we have heard it and it has remained stuck in our minds.

Some singers were pretty weak with the song but many of them managed to give goose bumps and also, at too many places the audience wanted to move off the seats, not to leave the auditorium but to dance to the beats (well all thanks to the performers on stage). If you have heard many trained singers then you would easily make out who were pretty well trained and had classical background and who didn’t but the beautiful voices of the singers and amazing music being played by the other members kept the ambience pretty fun and enjoyable.

Moving on to the next hour of the performance, the band performed songs of the stars of today’s music industry. From soulful voices like A.R.Rahman, Arijit Singh, Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Amit Trivedi and so on to actors like Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Vidya Balan etc. every song helped to make the quiet auditorium go crazy with loads of applaud and shouts of ‘once more’.

All in all, it was indeed a performance to look out for and such performances just rejuvenate you after a week full of tension and jam-packed schedules.
