On a windy yet sunny Delhi morning, Colors organised a panel discussion at The Hindu College. The discussion involved various eminent personalities like Kiran Bedi, Rishi Jaitly, Tisca Chopra, and Manish Chaudhari amongst others, who spoke about various topics which need attention and need to be spoken about.

This is the first time that a show has also been involved on social platforms like twitter to invite the audience to talk about things that they want to break free from with the help of a hashtag- ‘#khamoshitod’.

“Twitter is a great symbol of personal and collective strength. Twitter has become and is a window to the whole world. What we found is that most of the people are good and that most of the people are quite similar. Also, what we discovered is that when we talk about sensitive issues, a lot of people speak up and share their experiences. The ability of understanding that your experience is sharable is your personal strength and then comes the act of tweeting and sharing your experience with world.

What makes the experience of twitter even better is the fact that it enables you to hide your identity and talk about anything in the open, without fear. Twitter also becomes a therapeutic method and in India, we have seen that in the last few years, a rising number of people, especially youngsters, are tweeting their ideas, experiences etc. So, it has become a source of listening and sharing and also of collective strength. It has become a platform to begin a journey towards a bigger expression.” says Rishi Jaitly, Twitter India Head.

Adding to the conversation, Rishi said, “We are speaking about sensitive issues on this show so, simultaneously we are keeping twitter as the second window for the audiences to express their views about an episode and so on. In the last year and a half, Twitter has seen 600% increase in conversations revolving public issues which also enables for live/constant interaction between the host and the public. As far as the limit of characters is concerned, it has worked so far and in a mobile phone country like India, I think 140 characters create the most efficient experience for expression and reception.”

“Social networking has given a voice to people and has been able to break the silence about issues in a big way. Earlier, people weren’t able to express nor did they have a medium to do so, but because of the revolution of media and the coming up of social networking sites like twitter and Facebook, the audience has the ability to express and to question. It has initiated people to write, speak about some issue and has become a therapeutic and an entertaining medium for people. Sometimes some issues aren’t picked up by media but people on social networking sites make it so big that every channel and newspaper starts talking about it. However, what is required is to learn how to use it since there are people who want to create troubles too. I would have never talked about the politicians or police while serving the nation however Twitter has propelled me to contribute to the conversation or tweets. So, when you get information from a source then respect it and make a positive use of it” Says KiranBedi, Former IPS.

Talking about the show, Manish Chaudhari, the actor said, “The show would have 45 minutes episodes and is a set of three series- Umeed (suicide cases), Chakravyuh (entrapment), Awaaz (issues related to women and children). As far as the show is concerned, it is different from other famous shows like Crime Patrol and Savdhaan India. In fact, it is an addition to such shows.”
