A Kwest For Kababs And More: Delhi Food Walks
If you are in Delhi and you haven’t explored some of the best places to eat, then you should definitely choose to go for food walks, which are being organized in the city. Amongst the others, probably some of the most cherished and famous food walks are organized by Delhi Food Walks.
Chicken Shami Kabab
Delhi Food walks is the brainchild of Anubhav Sapra, who is a Dilliwaala and an avid foodie. On being asked about the genesis of Delhi Food Walks, he tells OWN that it started off as a blog. “Back then, in 2010, it was called Street Food of Delhi. He used to visit different places around Delhi, from Raju Chole waala, in Kamala Nagar, to the innermost lanes in the Labyrinth of Puraani Dilli.”

“Gradually I started gaining audiences for my blog, and one day, a friend asked me to conduct a tour for these places. It was around that time, the idea struck me, and you can see where we have reached since then. It was also around that time, in 2011, that I changed the name from Street Food of Delhi, to Delhi Food Walks.”
This weekend, OWN, with Anubhav and a group of fellow Rahiis or Humsafars, went for a quest of some of the best kebabs around Chawri Bazar.
We started off from Captain’s Kabab in Daryaganj, where we had some of the melt-in-the-mouth Galauti Kabab, a dish of Awadhi Cuisine, with the side of Roomali roti’s. During the Galauti Kabab session, we also acquainted ourselves with the other Humsafars. From there, we went to Qureshi Kabab Corner which is located in Jama Masjid, and were pleasantly surprised to see the crowd near the shop.
Khameeri roti and Sheermaal
We had some of the mouthwatering Seekh Kababs, which is their specialty. Next stop was somewhat in the interiors of Chawri Bazaar, in Bazar Chitli Qabar: Bhaijaan Kababs. They had authentic Shami Kababs, which were just delicious! The owner of the Shop, who is affectionately known as “Bhaijaan” tells us that they are the only shop that makes Chicken Shami Kabab, all over Chandni Chowk. From there, we reached, Kaley Baba kabab waley, where people, apart from having delicious Kababs, also relished desserts like Gonde ka Halwa,
From there, we went to Changezi Chicken, which specializes in all the chicken delicacies. We had Achaari Biryaani on the side of endless gossips about culture and food.
Finally, all content with the variety of food we had had, we washed it down with some Faluda Kulfi, Phirni and Shahi Tukda.
Bhaijaan Kababs
By the time we were done, everyone had a smile on their faces. The smile was of immense satisfaction straight from our bellies.
Later, while heading towards the Metro station, Anubhav, told OWN about his future plans. He said, “ I love to travel for food, and want to extend this feeling of love and happiness to other cities as well. So we are planning to expand in other places, like Ahmedabad, Calcutta, Lucknow etc. in the near future. We are also launching a new website, with a whole new concept, which would be one stop for all kinds of walks; Heritage walks, Food Walks, Art walks, Gallery Walks, Haweli Walks and many more. It’s going to be a whole new world of love, warmth, food, heritage, art, and people. It will be a one point destination for tourists, art lovers, history and heritage enthusiasts, ex-parts and everyone who loves to experience new things.”
Delhi Food Walks
He is also planning on another organization, which works on saving wastage of food and provides food to people on the streets who don’t get food and often have to sleep hungry. “There, we will focus on collecting the food from the restaurants which is often wasted and will feed the homeless. The organization would be called The Save Food Foundation.

In the end, he asks the “Generation Now”, to promote street foods, as they are often underplayed, but prove to be delicious as well as the livelihood for many people.
“Delhi street food is so rich. That you can carry on exploring, yet you won’t find the ends. Hence, explore more street food and you would not just be having some of the most delicious dishes you have ever had, but you would also be helping a lot of people. Get involved!” He adds, with a smile.
