Hit play, Sunburn Reload 2014, Shillong
The Revelers are trickling in and dancing and jumping, to the Master of the Puppets. No it’s not Metallica, playing in The Rock Capital, Shillong, it’s the locals favorite DJs performing from Fabian, Gavian, Avi, Varun to international legends Nasti Moto and Lost Stories.
Autumn has crept into Shillong and entire the North East, and it was a cloudy day with autumn chill in the air. But the heat of the beats played lit up the place. The frenzy both on stage with the presence of the DJ’s and the Dancers on the dance floor was entrancing. The changes of LIVE LOVE and music echoed in the hills of the polo grounds.
Avi, opened the set as the revelers were coming in. The sets changed with every artist, as he brought in something new to feed on the emotions of the revelers, manipulating light and darkness.
Gavian, the local favorite, introduced his first indigenous track. Which drove the crowd wild. All the spectators were shouting they wanted more with their fists in the air.
From Favian’s smooth melodic harmonies, to Nasti Moto who shook the ground with her industrial beat, the audience were taken aback by their ability to mix various genre of music into one. Some spectators commented how the music ounded like it was influenced by rock.
Food stalls
Sunburn kept the Rock capital of Shillong alive, but through EDM. Lost Stories, closed the set, making every one jump higher into the air as time stood still.
The spectacular showmanship is precisely why the Dj, the artist, live up to the crowd’s expectations. But also a brand such as SUNBURN has been successful in Asia overall and it evolved EDM into a genre of music that cannot be ignored. With EDM you can find influences of other contemporary music like jazz blues, rock, R&B etc. It has pushed the evolution of Live Performances and how Souled Out events has been successful in not just putting Shillong on the map but brought the whole of North East together in one venue. The theme of the show as a whole was LIVE, LOVE and DANCE.
Lost stories closing
With DJs, the master of the puppets, it’s not how many buttons they push on the mixers and the wireless and the invisible wires connected to the audience on the green expansive dance floor. The magic is created by their fingers and is echoed on the legs of the audience, where the features are drawn by the DJs hand itself. Stimulating every movement, picture and frame into a beat highlighting every illusion. The revelers are not controlled by human manipulators with Strings but by hitting the play buttons; it’s not lip synchronized but a simulation of movement of emotions.
Every artist was playing with shadows, colors, and textures. The crowd was awakening to dance, like a crane, where they are not statues but articulated dolls synchronized by emotions of transitions and convergence of a rich cultural diversity; history and religion in the North East Region. The show was a real display at Sunburn Reload, Shillong of how EDM has evolved. It is planning to come again and is all set to make Shillong an EDM capital soon.
