Why critical learning is important?

Why is critical learning important? Memory and intelligence are enough for your child to obtain good marks isn’t it? But do you know, you will only be able to give them true education when you will foster critical thinking skills within them.

Now, it is important to understand what is critical thinking?

It is a meta- skill that helps a person to process information in a logical manner. If you will inculcate critical thinking in a child he/ she will be able to find the necessary information for them and will be able to evaluate merits and consequences of that information.

“Give a man a fish and he will eat for the whole day but teach him how to fish then he will feed his whole family” I am sure must have come across this phrase earlier. This is what exactly critical learning does in an individual’s life.

“I strongly believe that critical learning classes should be provided to students in schools like another subject such as mathematics. As it brings out clarity of perception that makes a person capable of making his own opinions and core values”, says Kajal Verma, teacher at Vanasthali Public School.

Critical thinking is crucial for everyone and could be very beneficial if it is taught in initial classes of child because through this a person can continually reach new planes of self-actualization.

“Of course critical thinking can help a child to become academically good and this can help them to crack competitive exams. Most importantly it will help them to become a rational human being”, says Swati Goswami mother of a 15 year old.

Parents can also help their kids to think critically during various situations in their life. Completely relying on schools is not a good idea. Rather you can help them not just to do rote learning of facts but to do an analysis of it.

How Parents can help their kids?

“See it is difficult to guide children in each and every situation but whenever my son comes to me with any of his problems in life. I sit with him and first ask his reaction to it and then decide that how I have to make him understand it logically”.

I give my perspective and also tell him the consequences of his reaction and then let him think on it. This really works and yes, now he has started thinking more critically”

“Now he really comes up with strong arguments. I think every parent can do the same”, says Swati Goswami

So, don’t just make your child intelligent rather make him/ her a critical thinker!
