Saving Yamuna
Saving Yamuna
In the past few decades, the Yamuna is dying a slow death and surprisingly no one seems to care about it. Putting this concern to the people ‘Re-Centering Delhi’has put forward different causes of pollution and plausible solutions to clean Yamuna. It presents the factors- ecological, social and infrastructural- responsible for the current state of Yamuna. It is an ongoing research and design initiative at the University Of Virginia School Of Architecture.
Level of effectiveness of treatments
A collaboration between students and the faculty. Delhi shares only 1.6% of the entire stretch but this stretch is the most polluted. The amount of pollution is beyond comparison. At some part it is 1500% more than the acceptable level. At Nizamuddin it is 2000% more than the acceptable level. The main cause seems to be the untreated water sewage plants that can only treat 60% of the required treatment. It is estimated that $75 million is needed to clean the Yamuna.
Different levels of pollution
Millions have already been spent but nothing has come to effect. Yamuna needs proper care with utter diligence and the money which is meant for it should go into it without any compromises. Yamuna needs to be saved. For US!
