Red Bandstand: Launchpad to Stardom
There are N numbers of Bands struggling to get recognition in the music industry but sadly very few manage to even touch a ray of stardom. There is no doubt that the industry is very big but then only a few are ready to experiment and give a chance to a newbie. In such a scenario, Red Bandstand comes out as a wish come true for bands that are looking for just one chance to showcase what they have got.
Avtaran Band performing at Janpath
This weekend, the team of Red Fm along with Art Collide gave an opportunity to two bands- Chaar Hazaari and Avtaran to display their talent in the public area of Janpath. One World News in conversation with Pankaj Mullick, got the opportunity to know about this initiative of Art Collide and Red Fm, “Art Collide always works to provide opportunities for artists. We always look forward to bring the artist and their work in front of the public. Hence, Red Band Stand becomes one such event where we have brought the best Bands out of the entries we received. One of them is making their debut and other has already recorded previously in the Red Fm studio.”
Further we also had the opportunity to speak to the two participating bands- Avtaran and Chaar Hazaari, who told us about how important it is to make a digital presence in the present era of technology and how events like Red Bandstand offer a chance for upcoming bands to perform and prove themselves to be deserving.

Avtaran is a group of youngsters whose love for music got them together. Formed in 2013, this group is a combination of juniors and seniors of the same college. Commenting on what they think about the importance of being digitally present, Abhishek Mukherjee, one of the members of Avtaran said, “It is very important to be digitally present because it helps to have a direct contact with the audience and it’s a platform which would help us to perform better as we can easily know how to improve ourselves right from our well-wishers.”
Avtaran was quite excited to perform at the Red Bandstand as it was their first and foremost performance on such a big level. Some members of the group have taken professional training while some are self-learned artists. Further talking about how such concerts are important for upcoming bands, they said, “We believe that it is important for everyone to take up challenges and explore new things. It is only when you explore, you get to witness the magic. For bands, such chances are extremely important because it encourages them and gives a lot of exposure which is important for their own growth.”

Avtaran’s USP is it’s vocals as they have three vocalists in their group who possess the calibre of touching every high and low in a song. They love to experiment and add classical flavours to western and new songs. Inspired by Guns and Roses, Kailasa, A.R.Rahman etc, Avtaran performs with a range of musical instruments together ranging from the bongo to the tabla, offering a soothing experience.
Moving on to the other band – Chaar Hazaari, is a group of six energetic, open, cool people who believe in making new music rather than mimicking anyone. They are their own god fathers when it comes to music and they like to awe people with their own composition. Having performed at various programmes like V Channel’s Launch Pad, Himachal Pradesh’s Outlandish Festival etc, Chaar Hazaari believes that since social networking has become a way of life, it has become important to keep oneself socially advanced. And since most of the services are free, one can freely make their talent accessible to a large number of people.

Chaar Hazaari was shortlisted as one of the top 11 bands by Hard Rock Cafe and has been listed amongst the top 9 bands of Delhi. They believe in expressing themselves and for them such public platforms are a chance to prove themselves as artists and an experience to learn from. Each member of the group comes from different walks of life and believes in creating the best.
The evening was a moment to cherish for everyone who witnessed their magic. On one side if the Bollywood fever was high because of Avtaran then on the other the feeling of folk and rock came together through the beautiful amalgamation of music and lyrics by Chaar Hazaari. The audience could not help themselves and grooved to the music and sang along. Janpath was seen in a new light with the music reaching it’s every corner. It was indeed an experience to cherish for everyone present there.
