WIFW Spring Summer 2015: Day 1

From unique designs to soothing colours, WIFW witnessed all of it. With so many celebrated designers on one platform, showcasing their work for this season, the show could not have been much better than this. For all those fashionistas, who missed this exciting part of their life, there is nothing to worry or regret because here we bring to you what all has happened on the very first day of WIFW:

Alpana Neeraj: These two designers have got their inspiration of design from Japan this time. Their collection depicts Japan’s obsession with everything ‘Kawaii’ or Cute and also tries to capture cuteness all around and merge it with an equally strong Japanese aesthetic of minimalism and clean lines.

Sharp linear structures are softened with bows and scallops. Harajuku style apron skirts are worn over sharply cut pants, large floral patches are sewn on to long linear dresses and back gets special attention with obe add ons and structured tie ups. The roundness of compositions, childlike proportions and neutral and pastel colors are used to have the garments look like little doll clothes.

ATSU: Talking about his designs, ATSU says that 2014 has been a year of exploring and research to strengthen the DNA of his brand. His travel to Asia has inspired and pushed him to create new silhouettes and architectural shapes for the collection. Not sidelining his style of designing, ATSU has given a fresh approach which fits perfectly according to this season. Carefully combined the hand-woven Indian textiles with techno fabrics, the pastel palette gives a fresh and soft appeal to the collection making it wearable and the red dash on it gives it a touch of modernity.

Geisha Designs: The collection of Paras and Shalini is a poetry written in the language of fabric, thread & beads and this season’s collection is an evening wear collection that takes inspiration from the idea of fossilized flowers preserved in time.

Silhouettes: Drapes & pleats, maxi’s & separates, contrasted with romantic 50’s baby doll skirts are prominent in the collection.

Colours, Embellishments & Fabrics: Tea-dipped ivories, Morning sunshine Yellows, Apple Greens & fossilized blues speak the loudest against prints of pressed flowers on parchment base. Play of transparencies and opacities, Lace like patterns, Botanical floral Applique work & Embroidery dot the collection. Fabrics are rich and soft, silky taffetas & heavy Jerseys punctuated by intricate laser cuts.

Accessories: Gothic Bold earrings, Black ribbons, Sprayed flower wreaths, Ballerina Shoes, knots, lace cuffs & Halo like head pieces add to the mood. Hair is loosely knotted and Makeup is the barely there look, accented by rosy lips, brown eye shadows. Black Nails complete the look.

Tarun Tahiliani: Inspired by the award-winning work of the twin sisters- Amrit and Rabindra, famously known as The Singh Twin, Tarun Tahiliani came up with his season’s collection. The digitally printed cloth very subtly showcases the miniature style of painting. The design, though takes you to the past, but definitely keeps you modern.

The saris take up the status quo and transcend from being classic garb into a buzz of colour and shocking LED borders. And yes, there were variety to pick from- Dhoti Sari, Concept Sari or the traditional one endemic with colours.

Displaying colours that are shocking yet relatable for the kind of culture we live in, every piece, especially Dhoti-skirts and lungi skirts, remains the favorite and unique one which fits for every evening of your day. Apart from the colour attack, Tarun’s collection had also the somber whites and sensual blacks which had work on it that simply proved that he has not left the sensibilities of his brand behind.

Hemant and Nandita: If you are looking for dresses which you can easily carry and not needed to be accessorized then this collection is just for you. Looking at the running fashion, Hemant and Nandita have soberly blended soft colors with digital prints. Their collection had maxi-dresses, skirts and crop-tops, jump-suits and so on. White, Orange, Black, Grey etc. being their choice of colours, the collection makes a good wear to pep-up your evening.

Not So Serious: Dappled sunshine and the scent of citrus a light breeze and a hint of mischeive delightfully defiant is the collection by Not So Serious. The collection was made from chiffon, silk, organza and georgette. The signature style of not so serious is taken to the edge with the pristine whites, acid greens, and elusive peach, dusky pink, misty aqua and deceptive nude. The collection is true blend of calmness and enticement.
