PM Modi welcomes Gaza deal, praises Trump and Netanyahu, hopes hostage release and humanitarian aid pave the way for lasting peace in the region.
PM Modi Welcomes Gaza Deal and Hails Trump and Netanyahu as First Phase of Peace Plan Brings Hope for Gaza Hostages and Regional Stability
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has warmly welcomed the announcement of the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan in Gaza, calling it a significant step toward stability in the region. In a post on X, PM Modi stated, “We welcome the agreement on the first phase of President Trump’s peace plan. This is also a reflection of the strong leadership of PM Netanyahu.”
The Prime Minister emphasized hope for relief in Gaza, noting, “We hope the release of hostages and enhanced humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza will bring respite to them and pave the way for lasting peace.” His message reflects India’s support for diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing conflict and aiding civilians affected by ongoing hostilities.
Israel and Hamas have reportedly reached an agreement on a ceasefire and a hostage deal, marking the first concrete step under Trump’s 20-point framework to resolve the ongoing conflict. This accord comes nearly two years after Hamas’ cross-border attack triggered Israel’s military response in Gaza, a war that has left over 67,000 people dead and devastated the enclave.

Indirect negotiations in Egypt led to the breakthrough, illustrating that diplomatic channels can yield results even after prolonged violence. The agreement includes a coordinated withdrawal of Israeli forces from parts of Gaza and arrangements for a prisoner-hostage exchange, which Hamas confirmed. The group highlighted the sacrifices of its people and reiterated their commitment to national rights, freedom, independence, and self-determination.
The current deal represents a potential turning point in the protracted Gaza conflict, which has evolved into a broader regional issue, drawing in neighboring countries such as Iran, Yemen, and Lebanon. Analysts suggest that if fully implemented, this ceasefire could be the closest the region has come to peace since the escalation began, providing a framework for humanitarian relief and reducing regional tensions.
For US President Donald Trump, the agreement marks a significant foreign policy milestone. His administration had long promoted a vision for global peace but faced challenges in delivering results, including in Gaza and the ongoing Ukraine conflict. This initial phase success positions Trump’s peace efforts as tangible and may influence future negotiations in other conflict zones.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced he would convene his government to approve the agreement formally. The deal is expected to restore some stability in the region, easing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza where hospitals, homes, and essential infrastructure have been heavily damaged over the past two years.
According to reports, around 1,200 people were killed in the initial attacks, and 251 hostages were taken to Gaza. Of the 48 hostages still unaccounted for, 20 are believed to be alive, making the release and safety of these individuals a priority for both sides in the agreement.

The international community has cautiously welcomed the development, noting that this first step does not resolve all issues but could set the stage for broader reconciliation and long-term peace. Enhanced humanitarian aid and the gradual release of hostages are viewed as confidence-building measures that could foster dialogue and reduce hostility between Israel and Hamas.
PM Modi’s endorsement signals India’s support for peace initiatives and reflects the global expectation that strategic diplomacy, backed by strong leadership, can address humanitarian crises while paving the way for a sustainable resolution. Observers hope that this Gaza deal will not only save lives but also become a foundation for regional stability in the Middle East.
