‘Khoobsurat’ presence in Delhi
‘Khoobsurat’ presence in Delhi
A hot day in Delhi turned out to be one of the hottest days, when style diva Sonam Kapoor, the new heart-throb of India, Fawad Khan and the modern-mum, Kirron Kher made their appearance at Ambience Mall, Vasant Kunj to promote their upcoming movie, ‘Khoosurat’. The movie is about a royal misfit, where Sonam is playing the character of Milli Chakravarty, who is quite clumsy in her life and completely opposite to the character of Fawad Khan who is playing as a prince named Vikram Rathore (indeed a prince charming for all the young ladies of India).
Loosely based on an old film Khoobsurat (1980), the movie is completely set according to the new generation. The movie is expected to be a Bollywood fairytale and while talking about fairytales and how much Sonam believes in them, in response to A.Kameshwari from One World News, she said, “Oh my god! In general life, I am eternal optimist and the reason I chose to do such film is that I would always believe in fairytale, in happy endings and ever after. I think no one should lose that in their life.” Adding to it Fawad said, “I think fairytales are very necessary and all these stories we watch in movies are sort of fairytales itself. You take the story with you and enjoy those two to three hours of life. Things you might not recognise in life, a film becomes a medium to remind you such things.”
Talking about how Sonam prepared herself for this role, she said that she used to hang out a lot with Kiron Kher (followed by laughs), “I worked with Delhi based doctor Karishma Gulani for a month and a half to get a knack of physiotherapy sessions, to get knowledge about what my character is, though there are only three to four scenes as a physiotherapist. Other than that, I have worked with Zeeshan, who was also with me in Raanjhana for doing workshops, which I do before my every film and honestly, there was a lot of observation of Kirron aunty, my good friends like Swara and Tanya who made me act like Milli.”
The Punjabi side of Kirron Kher was awakened, when we asked her about her experience of working with the young lead-actors. Obviously in her style/accent she said, “You just made me feel like I am about to die (laughs). Well, talking about Sonam, I have seen her growing up and our families know each other really well. In fact, Sonam’s mom calls my husband second wife of Anil Kapoor. Many a times he(Anupam Kher) would call me up and say that he would have his dinner with Anil. As far as working with Sonam is concerned, it was as good experience as working with other co-stars. We always knew that Sonam would be an actress although her mother would always negate us
However, here she is now sharing the screen with us. She is a sweetheart and a Gemini, just like me (laughs) and I believe she is more like me rather than her mother. It was really easy to work with her and it was like working at home. As far as Fawad is concerned, I got to know about him while working with him in the movie. In the beginning, I found him to be an aloof young man with a wonderful smile and beautiful eyes. It is only after watching his show on a channel called Zindagi I got, more familiar to him, as I believe when you see an actor in three different series you get to know the personality of that actor and I like what I have got to know about him.”
If we go by Sonam’s words then Kirron Kher is exactly like what she is in the movie. Though Kirron says that she has a lot in similar to Ratna Pathak Shah (another known actor and wife of Naseeruddin Shah) in real life, her character in the movie has altogether a different take on Punjabi mothers.” I have played 10 different roles of Punjabi where three are of rural Punjabi mother and other being of an urban mother. This movie again has a different side of a Punjabi mother who has got married to a Bengali and is a little crack. The common thing amongst the character of these mothers, Humtum and Devdas is that she wishes good for her children. She is today’s mother and not one of those typical mothers who prepares sweet dish if her son passes with good marks. In fact, she is the one who is closest to her children and is okay with being called by the name, by them.”
Ending the conversation, Sonam expressed that her character is little type-caste in this film. “My character is completely opposite to Milli, I am clumsy, upfront etc. but I think people who want to be themselves, are passionate about their jobs etc. would relate to this character and so do I.” Adding to it, Fawad Khan says that he is not at all like Vikram Rathore. “I am quite a child at heart, though sometimes I take my character too seriously and get into it so much that I even tend to talk to people the same way. So, I am completely opposite to what Vikram is. You would probably see me in different Avatar when I would play some other character.”
The young couple in the movie has worked hard to get into their roles and one might see a lot of real Sonam in Milli. This rom-com movie is produced by Anil Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor and Siddharth Roy Kapoor and is all set to create magic on screen on 19th September 2014. So, if you believe in magic, forever after, happy endings and so on, then go and grab your tickets now.
