An evening with Sarangi maestro
“Bin dastak darwaze khole jaata
Tu kaun hai?
Panchi ki tarah pankhude sajata
Tu kaun hai?”
A musical evening was held at the India Habitat Centre on 12th September, 2014. The event was a part of the Kamal Sabri’s project- Dance of the Desert which is a confluence of dance, music and shayari. The event was organized by Ehsaas Foundation (New Delhi), Saurang Sangeet Society and St. Stephen’s College (Agra). As a part of the program, Kamal Sabri and his group played with a combination of all musical instruments to a mixed crowd of Indians and foreigners.
Kamal Sabri, a world famous Sarangi exponent played famous Bollywood song ‘nimooda nimooda’ on his sarangi along with many other tracks. He is son of the Sarangi legend Ustad Sabri Khan and is carrying forward the rich legacy of the Sania Gharana of Moradabad (UP).
The program was followed by ghazals and shayaris. The Sarangi maestro is a regular performer on the All India Radio and has also worked with renowned musicians like Zakir Hussain, Fateh Ali Khan and Renato Martins (Brazil). In the past, Kamal has recorded songs for famous International Bands like One Giant Leap & Massive Attack.
