Parshuram Jayanti 2025: Celebrate the Birth of Lord Parshuram with Wishes, History, Significance, and Rituals

Parshuram Jayanti, one of the most sacred festivals in Hinduism, celebrates the birth anniversary of Lord Parshuram, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. In 2025, this day of great importance falls on the 29th of April, whereas the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of the month of Vaishakha has already been marked. According to the Hindu belief, Lord Parshuram was sent to earth to uphold Dharma and to destroy evil forces at the time when tyranny and corruption were growing.

Lord Parshuram represents divine wrath, discipline, justice, and absolute devotion to righteousness. He is depicted as a unique blend of a warrior and a sage with a signature weapon—the parashu (axe). He is born of Rishi Jamadagni and Renuka and is held to be consort of Dhanavi, which is an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. He thus has a place in the Bhrigu lineage and occupies a prominent position in the Vedic scriptures.

Parshuram Jayanti is not merely a spiritual celebration but also a time for introspection, devotion, and reaffirmation of righteousness. Lord Parshuram’s glory as the greatest protector of virtue is engraved in ancient texts, beyond shrines of Vishnu and Parshuram, where it is said he defeated the tyrant King Kartaveerya Arjuna and freed Earth from 21 tyrants.

The day is celebrated with great respect throughout most parts of India. Rituals start at dawn when devotees take a holy bath to purify themselves spiritually and corporeally. Many would wear traditional attire and observe a fast as an act of devotion. Offerings are made to Lord Vishnu and His avatar Parshuram, comprising fruits, sweets, and milk preparations. Flowers, sandalwood paste, kumkum, and incense sticks are important puja (worship) items, usually accompanied by aarti and scriptural recitation.
