Rohit Sharma Opens Up on Mental Battles and Redemption After Stellar Knock Against CSK at Wankhede

Rohit Sharma shares thoughts on self-doubt, staying grounded, and delivering a match-winning knock against CSK in a vital IPL 2025 clash at Wankhede.

Rohit Sharma Reflects on Self-Doubt, Simplicity, and Redemption After Match-Winning Knock Against CSK at Wankhede Stadium

In a spectacular IPL 2025 clash held at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, stalwart batter Rohit Sharma exemplified his class and serenity with a match-winning effort against time-honoured nemeses, the Chennai Super Kings. Having butchered many previous outings, Rohit turned critics to cheer as he scored a phenomenal unbeaten 76 off just 45 deliveries, steering the MI to victory in record 15.5 overs with a target of 177.

This knock gained extra importance for Rohit because of the mental strength it required. Shortly after being awarded the Player of the Match, he admitted that for even the most tenured players, self-doubts tend to appear when runs aren’t scored consistently. “After being here for such a long period of time, it’s easy to start doubting yourself and start doing different things,” he reflected candidly. “For me, it was important to do simple things and have a clear mindset.”

The maturity of thought definitely paid off: Rohit’s innings was a perfect blend of elegance and brute strength, with four boundaries and sixes, one of which breached the newly inaugurated Rohit Sharma Stand — a moment that would have been surreal yet special for MI’s original. Rohit described the moment, “Looks far away that stand, I enjoyed being out there. For me, it’s about staying out there and finishing the game, that’s what gives me the most satisfaction.”

This was Rohit’s first unbeaten innings in a chase — a fitting landmark for a player whose journey has been synonymous with resilience and adaptability. The innings not only gave MI its third straight win of the season but also suggested that the side may be hitting their rhythm in time. “We are peaking at the right time,” Rohit proudly said.

Coming into the match as an Impact Player in the last few overs of CSK’s innings, Rohit stated that jumping directly into batting after not fielding was not the easiest thing. “It’s something we spoke about… it’s not easy when you haven’t fielded for 17 overs, but I don’t mind that if my team wants me to come straightaway and bat.”

Rohit’s words also gave an insight into his emotional connection to the Wankhede Stadium. Starting his early cricketing days in Mumbai and recalling times when entering the stadium seemed a dream, it must have been one of his unforgettable moments to have a stand named after him. “It’s a big honour… Whenever that name comes up, I don’t know how to react,” he expressed with a tinge of humility.

More than just an innings, Rohit Sharma’s performance was a testimony, a statement, a comeback, and a reflection of mental strength that champions are made of.
