Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer was reflective after his team managed to some extent win against Royal Challengers Bengaluru because of rains at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Punjab, a match that was shortened and set to a mere 96 runs, had its fair number of anxious moments before wrapping up the chase by the 13th over.
After the win, Iyer summarized the chaotic thrilling nature of IPL 2025, by saying, “As they say, variety is the spice of life. We can experience all kinds of games over here. It is a great challenge.” The skipper heaped praise upon the bowling unit that laid the foundation for the victory. During post-match presentation, he added, “There was no thinking, to be honest. I was making instinctive moves, and obviously, we were getting wickets.”
Indeed, the tournament has been full of whirlwind action for the Punjab Kings thus far. Just a few days ago, they faced an explosive spectacle against Sunrisers Hyderabad, accumulating an enormous total of 245 runs. Yet, a brilliant century by Abhishek Sharma saw Hyderabad chase it down comfortably, putting Punjab to a shattering eight-wicket defeat.
Recovering at the quick turnaround, the Kings linked arms to encounter the Kolkata Knight Riders, the defending champions. In dramatic difference from their previous game, Punjab managed to make a paltry 111 runs. Of course, Chahal turned the tide a tremendous four-wicket spell in his favor enough to enable the Kings defend that total successfully, bowling KKR out for 95 and claiming a somewhat shocking 16-run victory.
The victory against RCB continued this sequence of eccentric finishes and close outcomes. In Friday’s rain-short match, Punjab’s bowlers rose to the occasion, such as Marco Jansen’s hostile spell-from pitching heights. “Marco was bowling lethally. He steadied the ship. And the rest of the bowlers helped him,” Iyer pointed out.
He also shared his conversation with pace head Arshdeep Singh with regard to the conditions under which they played. “To be honest, we didn’t know how the wicket was going to play… the hard-length balls were very difficult to hit. I didn’t see a single six off a fast bowler hit down the ground,” noted Iyer.

Adapting to different playing conditions has turned out to be one of the greatest attributes of Punjab Kings in IPL 2015. And Iyer’s leadership in calm and sensing intuition has become pivotal in this regard as back-to-back matches hit different obstacles.
The next match for the Punjab Kings is against Royal Challengers Bengaluru again, this time on home turf, on Sunday, April 20.
