Orry Admits Starving for Weight Loss: Why It’s Harmful, Unsustainable!

Orhan Awatramani, a.k.a. Orry, has recently opened up on his drastic weight loss journey of 23 kilograms, for which he credits starvation and self-induced vomiting. Orry states that he starved himself and purged to lose 23 kilos, which pointed out a very unhealthy and very non-sustainable route of weight loss. Some days, I would wake up with neck pain because I would fall asleep on my toilet after throwing up my dinner; it worked, and I lost the weight!” He also felt the need to do all of that because fat and famous, according to him, do not go well together.  Health experts have warned against these extremes, which are bound to cause nutritional deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, and possible mental health disorders. Maintaining sustainable and balanced habits is necessary for overall well-being and fitness throughout one’s life.

Orry followed a very strict “zero-tolerance sugar diet,” where he had an egg-white omelet for breakfast and then often skipped meals the rest of the day, in his effort to reduce weight. He stated that he was adamant about adhering and was even trying to lose a further 2-3 kilograms.  

Health experts warn that the kind of practices witness in Orry’s transformation may be considered extreme dieting. Starving oneself may bring about a plethora of health complications, from loss of muscle mass to nutrient deficiencies and a gradual decline in metabolic rate. In starvation, when the body is deprived of food, it switches into survival mode and starts conserving energy, decreasing calorie expenditure. This is called starvation mode, making weight loss and keeping that weight off very difficult in the long run.  

That is, prolonged calorie restriction can mess with hormones, driving increased hunger and higher cravings. The hunger hormone leptin and satiety signal ghrelin will send out mixed messages to these individuals, encouraging them to overeat as soon as they switch back to regular eating patterns.  

The side effects of such extreme dieting methods psychologically are no less significant. These behaviors such as compulsive vomiting and chronic starvation are more carbs that lead to eating disorders, and these tend to have mental health acupuncture onto the person involved in the long run. Being aware of the basic signs of disordered eating is fundamental to seeking help whenever the disorder arises.

Underweight men and women might be better advised by health practitioners to adhere to sustainable, or at the very least, balanced weight-loss regimes. Nutrient-rich foods, mindful eating, exercise, and adequate sleep make the basis for healthy weight management. Crash diets and extreme restrictions work well for fast results almost every time, but soon after, all lost weight is usually regained, and this becomes counterproductive to their overall well-being.
