Hammered dulcimers were the earliest string instruments utilized in Europe since the Middle Ages. Following numerous efforts to design stringed keyboard instruments, the mechanisms of the clavichord and harpsichord were refined in the 17th century. 

Between 1790 and 1860, modifications to the piano of the Mozart period led to the creation of the modern instrument’s design. These modifications stemmed from the desires of composers and pianists seeking more robust and lasting sounds. Gradually, the tonal range of the piano expanded from five to seven octaves, which are present in today’s piano. 

World Piano Day is a tribute to the piano and all that is related to it. This day honors the music from earlier times and encourages its development. Thus, on this 88th day of the year, we gather to honor one of the greatest instruments ever and all those who enable this celebration.
