Poonam Dhillon, Bollywood’s most cherished actresses, has had a career of unforgettable experiences, iconic collaborations, and beautiful friendships. Sharing a stage with legends-for-the-last-moment happened to witness all-class stars becoming the future biggest stars of Bollywood. She has a treasure trove of priceless memories in her career.

During the making of Laila, Poonam had the good fortune of sharing a work relationship with Sunil Dutt, who played her father in the movie. There was this fun moment when she jokingly said, If you were younger, I would have probably wanted to marry you. Their camaraderie only enriched her accomplishments.

Among her closest friendships in the industry, Poonam has a warm and special fondness for Rekha. “Rekha is very affectionate-I love her,” she says effusively. What started within the confines of a film set turned out to be a lifetime of friendship. Padmini Kolhapure was also introduced to her on the sets of Street Singer, and both clicked immediately forming a friendship out of shared laughter and talks in the breaks between takes. Last collaboration with Sanjay Dutt for Poonam for this film before he took a sabbatical from the industry due to his legal troubles. He recalls how his very presence turned heads when he entered a room, given the striking looks he had.

However, one of Poonam’s most unexpected memories involves Salman Khan. Before he was known as Bollywood’s Bhaijaan, Poonam used to see him frequently at Salim-Javed’s house. “He was younger than me by a few years, and I never thought he would be such a big star. But he was very good-looking,” she recalls. At that time, she never thought the boy he saw once in a while would someday become a star among the industry’s biggest superstars.

Years later, when Maine Pyar Kiya was released, Poonam found herself enamored by Salman on screen, now that she was married. “Look how cute he is!” she remembers nudging Ashok Thakeria, her husband. Even today, she appreciates the massive fanfare around and backing against Salman, proving that some crushes never fade away.

Poonam Dhillon’s journey in Bollywood started with Trishul (1978) which brought her into the limelight. And star-studded continued with hits like Noorie (1979) and Rajput (1982). It is still valorized by the industry and continues to shine with cheerful friendships, hardened valuable memories, and an immortal inclination towards cinema.
