Raashii Khanna Confirms Farzi 2 Is in Development, Awaiting Raj-DK’s Script: Shooting Expected to Start This Year
Fans of the acclaimed Raj-DK series titled Farzi have been waiting for its sequel updates, and the wait is finally over. Actress Raashii Khanna has now divulged the long-awaited news. While the duo has much to talk about concerning their next projects, including The Family Man 3, Gulkanda Tales, and Rakt Brahmand, rumors erupted all concerning the status of Farzi 2. Now, in exclusive chats with News18 Showsha, Raashii has confirmed that the sequel is happening indeed.
Raashii starred in Farzi as one of the actors alongside Shahid Kapoor and Vijay Sethupathi. She revealed that the project is still under writing. The actress said, “A sequel will definitely happen. Raj-DK are still in the writing stage. That’s what I was told by them. But they’re the right people to answer this question. Shahid is also as clueless as me. We’ve no idea what’s happening. We’re just waiting for a call from them that they’re ready with the script and that we can start shooting. I really can’t wait to start Farzi 2,” she said. “Hopefully, we should begin shooting for it sometime this year. Let’s see what happens.”
Farzi season 1 turned out to be a game-changer for Raashii, raising her stature as a pan-Indian star, and the project has done more good than harm for the actress concerning acclaim and other opportunities she has gotten since its release. However, she acknowledges her pretty flustered self at this point in her career. “We don’t know what we should be doing and what’s working. We’re just throwing darts into the darkness hoping they hit the bullseye. Pushpa 2 had great numbers because it was an entertaining film led by Allu Arjun. It was a full formulaic, commercial film. But so many other such films do not work,” she uttered.

Raashii vowed never to perform stereotypical roles. However, he now understands that commercial entertainers have gone through changes. She confesses that she is not so much intolerant about the genre as she was previously. “I would like to take my words back (laughs). Your character should mean something. If it’s not well-written, then there’s no point in doing the film. But I feel that in commercial films today, there are better parts written for women. We aren’t just floozies anymore. It’s not just about singing and dancing,” she explained.

The actress of Thiruchitrabalam and World Famous Lover now wants content-driven cinema and mainstream commercial cinema to co-exist. Speaking about the ideal role in a film, she said, “A certain part of me will always want some meat in the character, even if the screen time is just 15-20 minutes. If not, I’ll speak to the director or add some layers to the part I’m supposed to play. But I feel that when you keep doing content-driven films, you want to break that mold with a commercial film. There was a point when I was only doing content-driven films, and I told my team that I want to do something mainstream now, change my mindset, and just have fun!” she concluded.
With Farzi 2 ongoing and the dynamics between Raashii Khanna and cinema changing, the audiences have a wide variety of roles in which they will see her. There is no official timeline for the sequel, but ideally, if everything goes as planned, filming will begin sometime in 2022, much to the excitement of fans who have been waiting for the next chapter in the Farzi saga.
