The Prime Minister of Vanuatu Jotham Napat made the decision to revoke the passport of Lalit Modi because the former Indian Premier League chairman tried to prevent extradition. The decision by Indian authorities to investigate forex violations and review TV rights deals with World Sports Group happened at a time when authorities started probing broadcasts of the 2009 IPL.
Indian passport surrender became an imminent goal for Modi because he obtained citizenship in Vanuatu.
