Eco-Friendly Holi: Celebrate with Safe, Homemade Colors This Festive Season

Celebrate a Safe and Vibrant Holi with Natural, Homemade Colors

Holi, the festival of hues, is a lively observance of happiness, affection, fun, and unity. Holi signifies the conclusion of winter and the onset of spring. Individuals throughout India observe Holi by using gulal, spraying pichkaris on one another, and tossing water balloons at each other. Loud music, thandai, and white clothes splattered with vibrant gulal is the typical way Holi appears. Although the festival is famous for its vibrant colors and energetic ambiance, artificial colors created from chemicals affect both our skin and the ecosystem.

In the past, holi was celebrated with gulal and flowers, but today, there are numerous chemical-based colors on the market that may lead to significant skin issues. These colors remain after one wash and require at least 3-4 baths for complete removal, causing skin peeling and dryness. Even if you use moisturizer or oil prior to playing Holi, the color does not wash away easily. Luckily, there’s a wonderful remedy that not only restores the spirit of tradition but also encourages sustainability – homemade dyes. This Holi, reject these synthetic colors and embrace naturally made colors.

Why Homemade Colors?

Thinking of celebrating the festival of colors, but concerned about the synthetic and dye-filled Gulal? To create a beautiful pink gulal at home, take 1-2 medium-sized beetroots, grate them thoroughly, and combine the grated beetroots with 1 cup of water. Utilizing a strainer, extract the beetroot juice and mix in 1 tablespoon of rose water.
