Tejashwi’s Sharp Rebuttal to Nitish Kumar’s ‘Made Lalu CM’ Remark

Tejashwi Yadav counters Nitish Kumar’s claim of making Lalu Yadav CM, reminding him that he made Kumar CM twice and questioning his leadership.

Tejashwi Yadav Hits Back at Nitish Kumar’s Claim of Making Lalu Yadav CM, Accuses Him of Distorting History and Criticizes ‘Tired’ Leadership in Bihar

Tejashwi Yadav, a senior leader of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), countered the claim by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar that his making Lalu Prasad Yadav the Chief Minister was an act of great benevolence. Tejashwi retorted that Lalu Yadav had already won election as an MLA and MP before the political career of Nitish Kumar took off and stressed that it was he who had actually gifted Kumar the title of Chief Minister twice.

Tejashwi responded to the comments in the Assembly and accused Nitish Kumar of distorting ‘history.’ He pointed out that by then, Lalu Yadav had already carved a niche for himself in politics with plenty of influence in the making of a few Prime Ministers.

“Yesterday, Nitish Kumar said in the Assembly that he made Lalu Yadav the Chief Minister, but he should remember that my father had already been elected an MLA two times and an MP before him. Forget about Lalu Yadav; he has played a role in making many Prime Ministers. It was I who made Nitish Kumar the Chief Minister twice and saved his party from collapse,” said Tejashwi.

Lalu’s Political Journey Before Nitish

Tejashwi Yadav provided an historical perspective in support of his case against Nitish Kumar. He reminded that Lalu Prasad Yadav first became an MLA back in 1980 after winning from the Sonepur sector as a Janata Party candidate. This was five years before Nitish Kumar himself entered the Bihar Assembly as an MLA in 1985. By mere coincidence at that point, Lalu had emerged as a force to be reckoned with in politics in the state of Bihar.

Tejashwi levied accusations against Nitish Kumar for trying to manipulate history to fit the narrative of his political ambitions. He ridiculed the Chief Minister for claiming to be the architect of modern Bihar and went on to argue that Kumar behaves as if history of the state only started in 2005 with him assuming the office.

A Comment on Nitish: “Tired CM with Retired Officers”

Continuing to blast the leadership of Nitish Kumar, Tejashwi labeled him as a “tired Chief Minister” with “retired officers” around him. He questioned the efficacy of Kumar to lead Bihar in its current circumstances and suggested that, rather, the state needed a leader rather than one who is in his old age and is going to retire very soon.

“There is a tired Chief Minister with retired officers in the state,” said Tejashwi. Tejashwi went on to condemn the Nitish government for its ineffectiveness and decade-old mentality. At a rally in Patna, Tejashwi asked whether the people of Bihar still wanted a government led by a 75-year-old man. He asked the electorate to foster change and move on with new, young leadership.

“Retirement age is sixty. Do you want a 75-year-old Chief Minister? It is high time for new machinery to take Bihar forward, not that way down the aisle that khtata gaadi .”

Nitish Kumar’s Counterclaim in the Assembly

The duel erupted after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, while speaking in the Bihar Assembly, asserted that he was instrumental in creating and promoting the political career of Lalu Prasad Yadav. He once again visited history back to the time of the RJD government (1994-2005) and claimed that it was he who elevated the political stature of Lalu Yadav, crashing in the face of strong opposition from members of his castes.

“What was there in Bihar earlier? It was I who made your father what he became. Even people from your own caste were questioning my support for him, but I still stood by him,” Kumar stated.

He compared Bihar’s conditions before and after his administration activated the 2005 serving date, where the law and order situation was in turmoil.

“When we came to power on November 24, 2005, the situation was terrible. Nobody could go out in the evening. There were no proper roads. When I was a minister at the Centre, we had to travel on foot due to poor infrastructure. Society was divided and filled with conflicts,” Nitish Kumar said.

The Political Battle Continues

The exchanges between the two leaders mark the continuing incidences of the long power struggle in the politics of Bihar. While Nitish Kumar speaks of the supposed failures of the past RJD governments, Tejashwi at the same time is attempting to position himself as the leader of a new generation, one that calls the old ones into questions. All the rising shifts in Bihar’s political landscape have in fact served as reminders of what has always been a deep-rooted rivalry between the two of them.
