Indian men’s cricket team faced New Zealand in their last Group A encounter of the Champions Trophy 2025 on March 1, Sunday. The much-anticipated clash between the two previous champions was held here at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and fielded first. India – batting first – posted a total of 249 runs on the board after 50 overs losing about nine wickets. Shreyas Iyer scored the most for the innings of 79 runs, with 45 runs and 42 runs coming from Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel respectively.

Virat Kohli is expected to do big things from the game since it’s going to be his 300th ODI outing and he could not really produce much impact by scoring only 11 runs from 14 balls. So, let us say that Kohli made his presence felt on the ground with his usual enthusiasm and vivacity. One such moment went into the news about fans and went viral on social networking websites when Kohli had the rib tickler and imitated Shreyas Iyer’s misfield. This happened when New Zealand was chasing 250 runs, and Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell were at the crease. Kohli gave a playful act of cheering that caused by the whole teammates’ plainly in stitches, showing him in this lighter shade, in front of competition.

Shreyas Iyer has been in spectacular touch over the past few months and has really contributed to the Indian batting scores. The 30-year-old Mumbai player has so far marked a brilliant 79 off 98 balls, with four boundaries and two massive sixes taking him over the 79-run mark. He had put India into good stead with Axar Patel through an invaluable partnership of 98 runs for the fourth wicket. Since joining, Iyer has been doing reasonably well in the tournament, with this being his second show in the Champions Trophy. He had made a valuable 56 runs from the last match against Pakistan, putting India comfortably on the chase to a target of 242 in 42.3 overs, losing only 4 wickets in the process.

Virat Kohli did not make a great contribution yesterday, nor did he make a great performance with the bat, but his energy in the field and ability to get the team going through his pranks marks him out as a leader-a team motivator. Fans too would expect Kohli to start taking the cudgel into the tournament and keep on providing his exciting energy on the field as India continues in the tournament.
