Delhi-NCR residents received relief when heavy rains hit specific regions across the region on March 1, 2025 after a warm February. Heavy rain brought moderate thunderstorms and lightning and winds reaching speeds of 30-50 km/h through the region during this time period ¹.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) estimated that both Delhi-NCR and section of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh along with Rajasthan would encounter light to moderate rain conditions. The India Meteorological Department issued a warning about upcoming serious flood conditions throughout different city areas ².
The maximum average temperature in Delhi reached 26.7 degrees Celsius during the warm February of 2025. The temperatures during the night on February 27 became the coldest on record for the month since 1947 reaching 19.5 degrees Celsius ¹.
The March 1 rainfall cooled the temperature to reach its highest point at 27 degrees Celsius which matched the seasonal average by 0.9 degrees. The lowest recorded temperature during this month reached 18.4 degrees Celsius which stands as the second highest minimum reading for the month 1.

The rain brought comfort to local residents but its effects resulted in water accumulation throughout different sections of the city. Elements of traffic congestion persisted in different sections of the city because of flooded areas according to the Delhi Traffic Police data.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department there will be numerous hot days this March leading to warmer than average temperatures across the region. The recent rain from March 1 provides brief rest to city residents as further rainstorms are expected over the coming days according to reports ¹.
