Sanya Malhotra’s 3-Step Curly Hair Routine & Essential Tips to Keep Curls Healthy in Indian Weather

Amongst people realising her acting prowess that she has on the big screens, she is acclaimed for beauty in the luscious curls adorning her head. She has boasted of quite a few luxurious curls, but mostly, she brings them out in most of her dealings when appearing. Sanya has recently brought her newly adopted curly hair care routine and shares how she goes about it to get those healthy, sharp curls in Mumbai’s humid conditions.
In an interview with Tweak India, Sanya kept her explanation simple by stating that she has gotten it down to a three-step routine:

1.
Hydration and Conditioning – She preps her hair by saturating it before styling, conditioning it after washing it.
2. Styling Using Curl Products – Scrunched hair, curl cream application, and sealing in moisture with a strong-hold gel.
3. Diffusing and Adding Volume – Air drying her curls using a hair diffuser before breaking the cast with a hair oil to add some volume and softness.

Inspired by Sanya, here are seven curly hair tips for the Indian weather:

1. Hydration Should Not Be Debatable

Curly hair is usually dry, and it gets worse with India’s hot, humid, or dry weather. Use deep conditioners, leave-in conditioners, and natural oils such as argan or coconut oil to deeply hydrate the curls. Water intake also keeps moisture from the inside.

2. Shampoos Without Sulfates

Shampoos that contain sulfates strip your curls away from the oil and leave them dry and frizzy. Instead, try a more mild or sulfate-free cleanser, which will wash curls without drying. As a rule of thumb, wash no more than twice a week to avoid overdrying and build-up.

3. Don’t Use Heat Styling

Continual use of straightening or curling irons fetches heat damage and loss of definition in curls. Try air-drying without a diffuser or low-heat drying with a diffuser as much as possible to preserve your natural curl patterns.

4. Wet Brush for Detangling

Curly hair tends to be fragile and easily broken. To minimize breakage, detangling should preferably be done using a very wide-tooth comb or wet brushes on wet and conditioned hair. This prevents unnecessary damage, being less friction.

5. Seal Moisture with a Gel or Cream

Curls are in plus-sizes and frizzed out by humidity, and dry heat makes them rather brittle. But with strong-hold gel or curl cream penetrating and guarding curls from fizzing out, curls can be maximized while scrunching hair while these products are applied.

6. Maintain Healthy Curls by Regular Trims

Cut every 6-8 weeks because regular trimming maintains bouncier and split-end-free curls. It keeps the curls younger and much bulkier as Indian humidity and heat make the curls tangle-prone and fragile.

7. Protective Styles for Outdoor Days

Protective styles such as buns, braids, or twists are the best if you will be outdoors for several extended hours in the heat or humidity. They also safeguard the curls from being easily moisture-lost, tangly, and frizzy.

It is Sanya’s simple yet effective hair care routine that brings hydration, the right products, and minimal heating into play. Whether you are fighting the Mumbai humidity or the dry heat of Rajasthan, you will find these tips helpful in embracing and releasing those wonderful natural curls.
