Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Blames AAP for Empty Exchequer, Assures Women’s Rs 2,500 Aid Scheme Will Be Implemented
: Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday said the Aam Aadmi Party-led government had left the state exchequer “empty”. Speaking at a press conference along with Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, Gupta said the financial crunch that her government was facing after coming to power was obvious. She said the government had to take up tough decisions after coming to power. Gupta said the BJP government would implement the promised Rs 2, 500 monthly aid for women after carefully planning it.
“As for whether the scheme can be implemented or not, when we sat with officials to see the financial position of the government, we realised that the exchequer was empty, ” said Gupta. “But the BJP government is committed to fulfil its election promises. We will ensure that the scheme is implemented without putting further strain on the state’s finances. ”

Virendra Sachdeva said development of Delhi and resolving the problems of its people was the BJP’s top priority. “The new government will bring stability and progress after years of alleged misrule by AAP, ” he said.
The BJP’s re-election in Delhi will mark a major shift in power after a decade of rule by the AAP. In the assembly elections that took place earlier this month, the saffron party won 48 of the 70 seats. Its emphatic victory will give the party the mandate to implement its agenda for the capital, but the state of the finances left by the previous regime remains a major concern.

Meanwhile, former chief minister and senior AAP leader Atishi has sought a meeting with Rekha Gupta over the financial assistance scheme for women. In a letter to the new CM, Atishi said why did the BJP not approve the scheme in its first cabinet meeting even though Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured of doing so during the campaign. She sought clarity on the issue and said immediate action must be taken to keep the promise made to Delhi’s women voters.
Tensions between AAP and BJP are rising as they continue to blame each other for the state of Delhi’s finances. The BJP says that AAP’s misrule has left the government short of resources, while AAP wants the new government to be accountable for its election promises. How the BJP manages the finances while delivering on its promises will define the early days of its government in the national capital.
