Sourav Ganguly confirms Rajkummar Rao will portray him in his biopic, highlighting his cricket journey

Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that Rajkummar Rao will play him in his much-awaited biopic. The film will showcase Ganguly’s journey from playing cricket on the streets of Kolkata to leading Team India.

Speaking to the media, Ganguly said, “From what I’ve heard, Rajkummar Rao will play the lead role. But there are some issues with dates, so the film will take more than a year to release.”

The film has been in development for some time, with fans eagerly waiting for details about the project.

Sourav Ganguly’s Cricket Career

Known as the Prince of Kolkata, Ganguly had a remarkable cricket career. He played 113 Test matches and 311 ODIs for India, scoring 18,575 international runs.

As captain, he led India to 21 Test wins and took the team to the final of the 2003 Cricket World Cup. His leadership played a major role in shaping modern Indian cricket.

After retiring from international cricket in 2008, Ganguly continued his involvement in the sport. He became the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and later served as the BCCI President. He was also part of the BCCI’s technical committee and the Cricket Advisory Committee along with Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman.

Rajkummar Rao’s Upcoming Films

Meanwhile, Rajkummar Rao has a busy schedule ahead. He will soon be seen in Bhool Chuk Maaf, alongside Wamiqa Gabbi. The film, directed by Karan Sharma, is produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films in association with Amazon MGM Studios.

The teaser of Bhool Chuk Maaf was recently released, showing a fun and mysterious time loop. It features the song ‘Chor Bazaari’ from the 2009 film Love Aaj Kal, in which Wamiqa Gabbi had a small role.

Apart from this, Rajkummar Rao will also be seen in Maalik, produced by Kumar Taurani and Jay Shewakramani. The film is set for a June 20, 2025 theatrical release.
