Samay Raina Cancels All Gujarat Shows Following Backlash Over Ranveer Allahbadia’s Controversial Remarks on India’s Got Latent
Comedian Samay Raina is said to have canceled his upcoming Gujarat shows after the furore over Ranveer Allahbadia’s recent remarks on India’s Got Latent talent show. The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Wednesday said that Raina’s performances in the state have been canceled, and BookMyShow ticket sales have been stopped.
Raina was scheduled to perform in four cities in Gujarat, according to VHP spokesman Hitendrasinh Rajput. His schedule covered performances in Surat on April 17, Vadodara on April 18, and Ahmedabad on April 19 and 20. The VHP, though, claims all these performances have been canceled owing to the opposition from the general public against him. “These shows’ tickets were available on BookMyShow until Wednesday morning, but seem to have vanished now,” Rajput said, according to a report from Hindustan Times.
VHP regional secretary Ashvin Patel shared similar views, speculating that the event promoters canceled Raina’s shows due to the outrage. “The people of Gujarat have shown exemplary vigilance in rejecting such persons. We appeal to event organizers not to host shows of such personalities in the state,” Patel stated.
The controversy arose as a result of a highly criticized comment left by Ranveer Allahbadia, aka BeerBiceps, while he appeared on an episode of India’s Got Latent. Allahbadia is accused of having asked a contestant an indecent question and even proposed she engage in an indecent act for Rs 2 crore. But it was only after he asked an extremely uncomfortable question that people rose up in arms: “Would you watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join once to stop it forever?”
The comment soon went viral, eliciting strong criticism from users on social media, public personalities, and political leaders. Allahbadia’s comments were widely condemned as unacceptable and out of place in a popular talent show watched by millions. Following this, he was charged with a police complaint, along with fellow judges Samay Raina and co-judges Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija.

Though Allahbadia has already made a public apology, Samay Raina has also reacted to the scandal. Last Wednesday night, he stated that he had deleted all of India’s Got Latent episodes from his YouTube channel.
“Whatever has happened is overwhelming. I have removed all episodes of India’s Got Latent from my channel. My only intention was to entertain and make people laugh. I am cooperating fully with the authorities to ensure a fair investigation. Thank you for your understanding,” Raina said.
As the drama plays out, the fallout has already appeared to have a noticeable effect on the parties involved. Whether Raina’s canceled performances are a sign of larger industry-wide fallout is yet to be determined.
