Adarsh Gourav, inspired by Superboys of Malegaon, dreams of directing films to tell deeply human stories
Actor Adarsh Gourav, who has starred in Kho Gaye Hum Kahan and The White Tiger, is currently preparing for his upcoming film, Superboys of Malegaon. The film, which was directed by Reema Kagti, is based on the inspirational true tale of Nasir Shaikh, a small-town filmmaker with minimal funding but unwavering devotion who made low-budget films like Malegaon Ke Sholay.
For Adarsh, playing Nasir has been a very personal experience. According to Nasir, his journey is evidence of the power of passion. Despite having very little, he forged his own path and followed his love of filmmaking. His story serves as a reminder that the primary reason we do what we do is because we are passionate about it.
Viewers have already expressed interest in the recently released teaser for the film. It draws attention to the unique Malegaon filmmaking culture, in which Nasir and his collaborators produced films using local actors and untapped talent. Adarsh rejoins producer Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti after Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, and he claims that working with them was a teaching moment. They are adept at telling authentic and nuanced human stories. In my opinion, this position is about celebrating visionaries like Nasir, who demonstrate that there is always a way to tell a narrative,” he continues.
Playing Nasir has also reignited Adarsh’s curiosity about filmmaking. While he is currently focused on acting, he admits that directing is a natural next step for him. “I’ve always wanted to explore all aspects of creative arts. Maybe there’s a film in me waiting to happen. Nasir’s story reminded me that cinema isn’t about grand sets or massive budgets—it’s about the emotions it evokes,” he shares.

According to Adarsh, directing will enable him to produce tales that challenge convention and evoke strong emotions in viewers. “I envision myself finally moving in the right direction. I’m now concentrating on improving as an actor, but I’m constantly considering becoming a director. I’ll make that jump when the moment is perfect,” he declares.
Superboys of Malegaon is not just a film about filmmaking, it’s a celebration of dreams, passion, and the power of storytelling. With Adarsh Gourav’s heartfelt performance and Reema Kagti’s direction, the film promises to be a touching tribute to underdogs who dare to dream big.
As Adarsh continues to shine on screen, his fans eagerly await the day he steps behind the camera to tell his own stories. Until then, he remains a versatile actor with a vision for the future.
