Udit Narayan Defends His ‘So-Called Scandalous’ Video, Explains It as an Act of Pure Affection and Bond with Fans
A media storm is centered on Udit Narayan as a video goes viral showing the iconic singer candidly posing with a fan in the middle of a live performance. In the footage, which shows the fan kissing him on the cheek as he clicks a selfie, a controversy has brewed, especially since Narayan seemingly reciprocates the kiss on the lips. The video has sparked accusations of scandalous behavior, but the singer is not backing down.
In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Udit Narayan addressed the controversy head-on, expressing no regret for his actions. He stated, “Why would I do something now, at this stage of my life when I have achieved it all? There is a deep, pure, and unbreakable bond between my fans and I.” Narayan explained that what was seen in the video was simply an expression of love and affection from both sides. He added, “They love me. I love them back even more,” emphasizing that his heart is pure and the moment was filled with affection, not malice.

Narayan responded lightheartedly to the criticism by stating that he needed not apologize for an act that was done out of love. “Do you hear any regret or sorrow in my voice? In fact, I am laughing as I talk to you,” he said jokingly. The singer was clear that the moment captured in the video was not an attempt to create any sleazy or inappropriate situation. “If some people want to see something dirty in my act of pure affection, then I feel sorry for them,” he said. He also acknowledged the irony that the controversy had only increased his fame, thanking those who have helped raise his public profile.
Narayan also pointed out that the video, which was recorded months ago during his US-Canada tour, had been released with ill intentions. He believes the timing of the release was aimed at tarnishing his reputation, but he remained unshaken. “The more they try to pull me down, the more I will rise,” he declared. Narayan took the opportunity to remind his critics of the late Lata Mangeshkar’s fondness for him, claiming she considered him her favorite co-singer from his generation. He also expressed that he has the blessings of “Mata Saraswati,” reinforcing his belief that nothing can affect his success.

There was a video from the show with Narayan pulling up a young fan towards himself to take her selfie in. She reached him and touched Narayan’s cheeks to give kisses to the screen and thus automatically, he pecked his kiss on the lips. Despite the controversy, Narayan is confident of his actions and his connection with his fans.
