Abhishek Sharma’s Record-Breaking 135 Off 54 Balls Powers India to a Dominant 150-Run Victory Over England in the 5th T20I
Indian T20I history has witnessed one of the most breathtaking innings by Abhishek Sharma on Sunday, February 2, in guiding the Suryakumar Yadav-led team to a dominant 150-run victory over England. The Amritsar-born 24-year-old cricketer looked pretty breath-taking while smashing 135 runs off just 54 balls at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. His innings was replete with seven boundaries and 13 towering sixes as he broke numerous records, among which were also surpassing Shubman Gill’s highest individual score for India in T20Is and also set a new benchmark for the most sixes in a 20-over match by an Indian batsman.
After the match-winning performance, Abhishek reflected on his journey and preparation, saying that he always believed in his ability to play such an extraordinary knock. He credited his rigorous practice sessions, where he replicated match situations, for his success on the field.
You can ask any player; such matches are rare. I would say it was all possible because of the efforts I put in during practice, the backing I received from the coaches and the captain, especially when I was struggling with runs or bowling,” Abhishek said in the post-match press conference.

The left-hander further stated that all his hard work had come to this performance, and he had always believed that on his day, he could produce an innings of such magnitude. His confidence in his skills and preparation was reflected as he tore apart England’s bowling attack with ease.
Abhishek enjoyed his duel particularly with England’s pacers and leg-spinner Adil Rashid, whom he smashed a few of his whopping sixes. “If I am being honest, I hardly remember half of them. But the way I utilised the bowlers’ pace to hit over the covers and also attacked Adil Rashid was satisfying. I try to recreate match scenarios in the nets and apply those strategies to the game,” he explained.
They all compete for limited opening spots in India’s T20I, with stars like Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal in the fray; however, Abhishek ruled out any rivalry or insecurity. Instead, he revealed that the three share great camaraderie having had a history of playing together ever since their U-16 days.

I met Jaiswal and Shubman yesterday (Saturday). We have been playing together since the U-16 level, and there is no sense of competition among us. The ultimate dream was always to play for India and now that all three of us are representing the country, there is no bigger joy than that,” he said.
Abhishek Sharma’s innings wasn’t just about personal milestones; it was cementing his position as a solid force in the Indian T20I setup. The ability to back his belief with sheer hard work and execution on the field is testament to his talent and dedication. This performance will most certainly make him a key player in India’s future successes while he continues on his journey through international cricket.
