Veteran playback singer Udit Narayan has sparked controversy after a viral video showed him kissing female fans during a recent concert. The clip, widely shared on social media, shows Narayan performing on stage when a group of female fans approaches him for selfies. While obliging their requests, he is seen kissing some of them on the cheek and even asking security personnel not to interfere.

The video has drawn sharp criticism from netizens, with many calling his behavior inappropriate and disrespectful. One user wrote, “This is disgusting. If it were me, I would have reacted strongly.” Another commented, “He kissed the last girl on her lips like a molester. This is beyond unacceptable.” However, some defended Narayan, stating that the fans willingly approached him and were not forced.

This incident comes amid a series of challenges for the singer. Last month, a massive fire broke out at his residence in Mumbai’s Andheri West, resulting in one death and leaving another person severely injured. Narayan was reportedly deeply shaken by the tragedy.

In 2019, the singer also faced personal threats when he received anonymous calls from an unknown number. After filing a complaint, police discovered that the number belonged to his building’s security guard, whose phone had been stolen.

Despite the controversy, Udit Narayan remains one of Bollywood’s most celebrated playback singers. With a career spanning over four decades, he has won four National Awards and received the Padma Bhushan. His breakthrough came with the 1988 film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, where he lent his voice to Aamir Khan. Iconic songs like Papa Kehte Hain, Pehla Nasha, and Jaadu Teri Nazar have cemented his legacy in Indian cinema.

While Narayan’s contributions to music are undeniable, the recent incident has raised questions about boundaries and professionalism. As the video continues to circulate online, it remains to be seen how the singer addresses the backlash and whether this will impact his reputation in the long run.
