This love story between Naga Chaitanya and Sobhita Dhulipala had been a subject of gossip for years. Despite beginning their courtship in 2022, the couple kept their romance private, finally getting engaged on August 2024. It was on December 4 that they married in an elegant and private ceremony with intimate relatives and friends at the Akkineni family’s Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad.

Naga Chaitanya, in an exclusive conversation with opens up about the deep bond he shares with his wife and how she plays a crucial role in his personal and professional life. He describes Sobhita as his anchor, someone who offers him unwavering support and invaluable advice.

Role of Sobhita in Naga Chaitanya’s Life

The actor revealed that he seeks Sobhita’s opinion on almost every major decision, especially regarding his career. “I take all my ideas to her. Whenever there’s any kind of confusion, I go to her. When I’m stressed, she immediately senses it and asks, ‘What’s wrong? What is it?’ She’s definitely my bouncing board,” he shared.

Chaitanya appreciated Sobhita for being a neutral and very thoughtful advisor. “Her opinions are very level-headed, and she always thinks from the right space. I value her input a lot. Everything goes through her before I make a final call,” he added.

Light-hearted take on marriage

During the trailer launch event of his next release Thandel in Visakhapatnam, Chaitanya did have a couple of entertaining moments with the audience. The actor lovingly addressed Sobhita as “Vizag ammayi” and then light-heartedly quipped how the ruling party at his house was now hailing from this coastal city. He even goaded fans to help Thandel go well at the Vizag box office or else he will lose all his “honor” back home.

Adding to the humor, Chaitanya mentioned that he picked up the film’s dialect from Sobhita, making his performance more authentic.

His Career Growth and Thandel

Shifting focus to his career, Naga Chaitanya expressed gratitude for being cast in diverse roles. He emphasized his desire to break out of his “urban” image and explore characters that are more rooted in reality.

“I want to be cast in all kinds of roles. Directors should be able to mold me into any character they envision. I’m thankful to those who trust me with such opportunities,” he said. Regarding Thandel, Chaitanya admitted that initial doubts existed about whether he could convincingly play the role of a fisherman. However, the makers believed in him and gave him the time needed to prepare for the transformation.

The Making of Thandel

Thandel is an adaptation based on real events involving 22 fishermen from Srikakulam who, in 2018, drifted into Pakistani waters due to a storm. They were arrested and sent to jail by the coast guards of Pakistan, where they were imprisoned for nearly two years before their release. Coming soon on February 7, the film sees the presence of Sai Pallavi.

Discussing his preparation for the role, Chaitanya revealed that he had about eight to nine months to work on his looks and dialect. He credited director Chandoo Mondeti and the entire team for allowing him the space to evolve into his character.

“I’m grateful that I’m getting more projects where my roles are completely different from my real-life persona. It’s helping me grow as an actor,” he concluded.

With Thandel gearing up for release, fans are eagerly waiting to see Naga Chaitanya’s transformation and how his real-life experiences, including his marriage, have influenced his journey in cinema.
