Actor R Madhavan recently opened up about his views on money, his personal experiences, and his role in the new film Hisaab Barabar. In an interview, Madhavan admitted that if he had been more money-minded, his net worth would have been much higher. However, he has no regrets about how he has spent his money.
Madhavan on His Net Worth and Spending Habits
Madhavan revealed that he has never been overly concerned about money and enjoys spending on experiences. He shared, “I spend on experiences. I never see how much a new experience costs. I just want to do it. I’ve spent a lot of money unnecessarily, but that’s what an actor needs. All of those experiences have contributed to my current status as an actor.”
Despite not being as financially cautious as some, he believes his spending has helped him grow as an artist. While he acknowledges that he could have accumulated more wealth, he values the experiences that have shaped him.
His Inspiration for Hisaab Barabar
In Hisaab Barabar, Madhavan plays a railway ticket checker who is obsessed with keeping financial records accurate. He shared that he drew inspiration for the role from his parents’ generation, who were known for their honesty and integrity.
“All our parents find strength in the fact that they are straightforward, honest people. If that is taken away, their ego is shattered because honesty is their pride. Either they break down or they take a vengeful form to fight back. That is what my character in Hisaab Barabar does,” he explained.

The actor also addressed the common perception that he has a serious or grumpy personality. He laughed, saying, “People who have met me know how I am. But when I am on set, I have been told that I have an intimidating aura. I don’t know why—I have never yelled or misbehaved on set.”
