Ram Rahim Urges Followers to Avoid Visiting Him as He Walks Out on Parole

Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has been granted 30 days’ parole from Rohtak’s Sunaria jail, where he is serving 20 years of imprisonment for raping two of his disciples in 2017. The decision will mean the return of the controversial guru to headquarters in Sirsa. He is the 12th release from jail since his conviction and once again brought him into the limelight.
Ram Rahim’s Dera is a robust religious organization with ardent following support in states like Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and many more. Many of his followers are spread across many districts in Haryana, including Sirsa, Fatehabad, Kaithal, Hisar, and Kurukshetra. The parole comes as a significant development, given the wide support Ram Rahim continues to command within those regions.
But he has asked his devotees not to visit him at the Sirsa Ashram after his release. He has told his followers that though he would return to the ashram, they have to strictly abide by the directives released by him and have to obey them completely. It has created an interest among his devotees in the chief, who often consider him a spiritual guide, while the criminal background overshadows his personality.
Ram Rahim’s parole is not an isolated incident. It is the latest in a series of releases since his conviction. His previous parole granted in October 2024 was also notable, as he had been allowed a 20-day leave at that time. However, Ram Rahim’s legal troubles have not been limited to the rape convictions.

In 2019, he was also convicted in the murder case of journalist Ram Chander Chhatarpati in 2002, which had been a cold case for over 16 years. He was sentenced along with three others for his role in the murder.
Yet recent legal developments go in his favor. In May 2024, Ram Rahim was acquitted along with four others of the murder case of Dera Sacha Sauda’s former manager, Ranjit Singh, back in 2002. This has made matters more complicated as far as the legal situation goes and the arguments against his continuing influence.

This parole granted to Ram Rahim is another add-on of controversy in his innings, and most people are questioning the motive behind such frequent releases and a long-lasting loyalty of followers.
