Bengaluru Airport Taxi Scam Targets Unaware Passengers with High Fares

The woman, who was tired and unfamiliar with the city, agreed to hire the taxi, assuming it was a legitimate airport service. However, when they reached her destination, the driver demanded Rs 3,000 as the fare, claiming that it was the standard rate for the distance traveled. The woman, who was taken aback by the exorbitant amount, later discovered that the actual fare for the ride should have been around Rs 450.

The incident has raised concerns about the lack of regulation and oversight at the airport, which allows such scams to thrive. The woman has filed a complaint with the airport authorities and the police, but it remains to be seen whether any action will be taken against the errant taxi driver. The incident serves as a warning to passengers to be cautious when hiring taxis at the airport and to always verify the fare and the driver’s credentials before embarking on their journey.

To avoid falling prey to such scams, passengers are advised to use authorized taxi services, such as Meru or Ola, which have fixed rates and can be booked in advance. Additionally, passengers should always check the fare and the driver’s ID before starting their journey and should not hesitate to report any suspicious activity to the authorities. By taking these precautions, passengers can ensure a safe and hassle-free journey.
