In a significant development, the Katra-Reasi section of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project has received the green signal, paving the way for the introduction of train services to Kashmir. The 148-kilometer stretch, which is part of the ambitious USBRL project, has been cleared for operationalization, marking a major milestone in the endeavor to connect the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country by rail.
The Katra-Reasi section, which includes the construction of tunnels, bridges, and stations, has been completed after overcoming numerous challenges, including difficult terrain and harsh weather conditions. The section has been thoroughly tested and inspected, and the Railway Board has given its approval for the introduction of train services.
The introduction of train services on the Katra-Reasi section will not only boost connectivity but also provide a major fillip to the local economy. The train service is expected to reduce travel time between Katra and Reasi to just 30 minutes, making it an attractive option for tourists and locals alike. The train will also provide a convenient and comfortable mode of transportation for pilgrims visiting the famous Mata Vaishno Devi shrine.
